We probably should try incorporating some time to discuss topics of interest for ghost hunting at the meeting. . . we don't want to bore everyone to death with all the administrative stuff. Some of our Meetup.com folks are there to learn about paranormal activity:
How about we talk a little more about planning this trip withe Joliet Paranormal Society to Waverly Hills this summer, and discuss some of the activity that's been reported there. We could also spend some time sharing personal experiences or findings from personal investigations.
Anyone have other suggestions?

Unfortunately the business end is something we have to do....I dont think its that's boring but shouldnt take up half the meeting. Investigations of past and future are not business or boring....However, I still think it should only be half the meeting and the other half should be possibly these topics:
1.) The haunted place of the month---have one of the group members pick a place and give a presentation to the group
2.) 10 minute tech talk- have one of us go over a piece of equipment and talk to the group about it.
3.) Experiences- take 10 minutes and have someone talk about one experience they had or possibly had with the paranormal.
4.)Guest speakers---there are many out there and we could have one, once per quarter.

I'm not suggesting we do away with the business portion- it's crucial.
I just thought it would be great to have a little more direction with the remainder of our time, so that everyone can get involved and participate. You offered some great ideas by the way! I love the "equipment: 101" idea especially- the lecture could include a little of the theory behind the use of the item.

Hmm.....what about this for the newer team members:
I know I had some anxious feelings about overall how to go about investigations and what to do/not do and overall maybe get some feedback from the old school members of the group as to how they felt when they started........it may help some of the newer members feel a bit more comfortable leading up to their first investigation!
I mention this because at our last meeting I got an opportunity to speak to Tim about this and he was VERY helpful to me leading up to my first investigation.....thanks again Tim!

I like all the above ideas - we used to do some equipment show-and-tell and did that one report on Bartonville before we did our first investigation there...all of that has kind of fallen by the wayside and you're right that it would benefit the newer members a great deal.
Now that we have a projector and screen it will be easier to do these sorts of briefings because we can show pictures and maps and stuff. I don't know how well it would show up though until the room gets real dark...those reports might need to be one of the things we do as the meeting is coming to a close.

I think this is a great idea "Equipment 101". Especialy when it comes to EMF meters. I actually have a handout to bring to the next meeting about how to get the most accurate readings from them and what to look out for. Some that will benifit both old and new members.

Let's make it official then, and include an "Equipment: 101" session at the the next meeting, and cover the basics like we did when we first started- we can go into more detail and do a different piece of equipment at each meeting.
Who'd like to offer this talk?

wow Caroline, Love all your suggestions for new topics. I would also like to see more guest speakers as well. Just a suggestion. I don't know if many of you have heard of Ed Shannahan. He hosts the unexplained world. Has a blog talk radio show as does events with Ursula bielski. he has said many times he was willing to come talk to groups in the area. I'll send him an email if your interested. If you like more info let me know. Betty
