Since Tim has already purchased a DVR system, which was #1 on our list, I've been thinking about what additional equipment would most benefit the group. What do you think of purchasing a portable power system, which we could use when power outlets are unavailable...such as cemeteries, battlegrounds, and abandoned buildings? This would power the laptops, cameras, and DVR. Here's an example: XPower Powerpack 1500 - supplies 60 AH on a light wheeled cart - costs $380 www.advancedenergyonline.com/catalog/packagedsystems/portable_power_packs.htmThis is just one example...we could probably find something even better for cheaper on Ebay or Craigslist or whatever. So, what other equipment ideas do you have?

A power supply sounds great, but we could also use more motion sensors for the CPRS kit, and maybe a barometer? It would be great to measure and track air pressure. Or maybe another Tri-Field detector?
I think some stop-watches would be useful as well, so we can synchronize multiple teams, and all of the cameras to a central monitoring station.

I still think we should buy the IRs. Call me optmistic but I hope that soon we'll have two groups investigating different locations on the same nights. I'd hate to see the fist fights that would occur over who gets to use the IRs for the night. Think you can take me...put 'em up...put 'em up!

What is this "bump" business?

a "bump" is just a post to move an important topic back to the top of the board. This way it doesn't get lost in the posting cycle, and it's easier to find if it's a topic people will be looking for specifically, like a sign-up sheet.

However, we already have 6 of them....2 in the CPRS gear bag and 4 that Tim has. Since you can get decent ones for like $25 it shouldn't be a problem to earmark some money to buy another 2. Doug

we need more IR lights in general they don't have to be cameras but some of the night shot cameras do not put out enough light on their own.

Viewing the footage from the Woodstock investigation was very difficult, because so little of the room was illuminated- a full-body apparition could have been performing the macarena off in the corner, and we'd never know it

I had the same experience on the oak lawn investigation. Only half of my screen was illuminated so I could only see a little bit. I am thinking about purchasing a second IR extender light so that I can see a lot more and have a completely illuminated screen.

Okay, the IR's you are referring to now are called IR extenders, Colleen was referring to IR motion sensors. And you're right, we should have more of both.
I've purchased the Sony HVL-IRC for my NightShot camcorder. If you own a NightShot camcorder you might want to consider getting one, as the NightShot without it is considered by many to be practically useless past 10 feet. Not all Sony camcorders are compatible with this, so check to see which extender is compatible with yours before you buy.
Ebay has tons of the IR extenders...some of them can cover large areas with plenty of infrared light. These work great for large open areas, but remember that when we are indoors the NightShot cameras will be all spread out into different rooms, so if they are all equipped with the HVL-IRC (or whichever extender that your camera uses) then they have the greatest portability.

Yeah, Dan made several copies of the audio software at the last meeting and handed it out. I haven't gotten around to trying it out yet, but I'll install it in the next few days and try it out on some of my audio recordings.
If you didn't get a copy, I can make some and bring them to the meeting.
