I just found out that I won an auction for a Canon Hi-8 camcorder, yay!
I don't know if I'll be able to get it in time for the home investigation on the 29th (that would likely be really expensive,) but we'll see.
I'll be getting my new digital voice recorder tomorrow as well- I feel like a real ghost hunter now ;D

Hey foolio. I just got another Sony today. It's the DCR-DVD 108 with Night shot plus. I haven't tried really using it much, but it will help with investigations.
See you all shortly and hope you all had a great holiday.

Digital camera....emf metre...or a camcorder with night vision.
Do you have any of these?

Shaun,
Hi there, sorry we did not get a chance to meet at the meeting. I had to bow out at the last min. due to this friggen cold that doesn't seem to want to go away. As far as equipment goes I would say at least a digital camera. None of the equipment we use has ever proven nor dis proven the existance of paranormal activity. Don't think that you have to go out and purchase a ton of expensive equipment to join our group. What we do find to be helpfull is a digital camera as mentioned by both Mike and myself. Any camera will do actually but digital camera's are cheaper in the long run when you consider the cost's of develpoing film, and even at that you are not guarenteed that anything will turn out on them. You can purchase relativly cheap EMF meter's on many sites (some of which Ken has posted about in an earlier thread). Many of us also use Infra Red Thermometers (which you can find online or at Auto Part stores or wherever you can purchase maintance supplys at. Aside from that flashlights of course. Anyone will do but I have turned some people on to using one's that offer filters (both red and blue) these can be found in the camping section of your local Walmart Store. Hope this helps!

Kristen,
I look forward to speaking to you at our next meeting!
Thanks for the advice, I actually starting my shopping today. I have a digital camera already and I think I would like to get an EMF recorder as well. Also, I have the type of flashlight you are talking about.
I'm real excited about getting an opportunity to dive into the protocol on investigations so I can be prepared when the time comes!

All,
Sears has Infrared thermometers now that can be had fairly cheap and they do have sales. look for the craftsman flyers in the sunday paper.
I have gotten some higher end digital voice recorders (samsung, sony, panasonic) rufurbished from Amazon and Ebay. the refurbs usually come with the same warranty as a new one.
L.E.D. type flashlights cannot be underestimated. Definitely find one with the capacity for red. I bought a higher end one thats small but also meets military spec 'Coast LED Lenser'. Also a headlamp with the same capacity. Energizer has a multi LED with red for night vision. App. $20 @ Menards.
Don't forget your family radio service radios. My Sperry EMF Field tester was bought on EBay as was my set of Divining Rods. Think about clothing also. Dark colors are best. try to stay away from stainless grommets or stitching that is reflective. On the other hand, when outside during a ghost hunt as opposed to an inside investigation, try to have a pack or soemthing that can reflect as warn traffic. My advice, get some pepper spray and don't be afraid to use it. Your more likely to run into an animal, human and canine, rather than spiritual force. My motto, there's more haunted people than haunted places, so keep that in mind.
I believe the 'Spooky attic' on Ebay has alot of the stuff we're all looking for. American Science & Surplus, there is a store in Chicago and one in Wheaton(?) that is a great help. Shop - look for deals.
I've talked too much - now go shopping. Danno

Good point, Dan, I hadn't thought about clothing- I think I've got some black jeans I'll have to start utilizing. . . I"m pretty well set on dark clothing in general though

I went on ebay and bought a second infrared entender light for my camcorder for $45, that's with shipping. The last light I bought, I bought it for $90 with shipping. I paid half this time. Weird. At least now, when I go out on investigations, or if someone else borrows the camcorder, the whole screen will be illuminated and not just the center half. No more small illuminated circle with dark corners.
